Getting Started

Microphone Setup

Grant microphone access for Ambient Scribing in the palmER mobile app or a desktop browser. Steps for Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge.

Ambient Scribing needs microphone access. How you grant it depends on where you scribe: the palmER mobile app or the web platform on a computer.

Scribing on a phone? Use the app

The palmER mobile app manages the microphone for you and keeps listening even when your screen locks. It is the most reliable way to scribe at the bedside. See Installation and Accounts to install it.

In the palmER Mobile App

The first time you tap Start Ambient Scribe, the app asks for microphone access:

palmER AI uses your microphone for ambient scribing and automatic documentation generation.

Tap Allow and you are ready to scribe.

Listening keeps going in the background

The app keeps listening when your screen locks or you switch apps, and it keeps your screen awake while a session is active. You can slip your phone in your pocket mid-encounter and palmER keeps listening.

If you denied microphone access

If you tapped Don't Allow, turn the microphone back on in your phone settings, then return to the app and start a session again.

iPhone: Open SettingsAppspalmER AIMicrophone and turn it on.

Android: Open SettingsAppspalmER AIPermissionsMicrophone and set it to Allow.

On the Web Platform

If you scribe on the web platform on a computer, grant microphone access to your browser. Most users are prompted automatically the first time they start a session. Just click Allow and you're set.

If your browser didn't prompt you, or if you previously denied access, follow the steps for your browser.

Still Having Issues?

If you're seeing "Permission Denied" errors or the microphone isn't working after these steps, see our Ambient Scribe & Microphone Troubleshooting guide for more solutions.
